There are many different types of firewood suitable for use in open fireplaces, wood-burning stoves, log burners and campfires, but kiln-dried logs are the most efficient. Not only do they burn hotter and for longer than unseasoned logs, but they also burn more cleanly and safely, creating fewer creosote, tar, soot and ash deposits. Unlike other suppliers, we do not purchase our kiln-dried logs from across Europe.
Instead, LJN Firewood produces every one of our logs onsite at our own yard in Ewhurst, which we make available to domestic customers and local businesses around Cranleigh, Guildford, Dorking, Leatherhead and the wider Surrey and West Sussex areas.
We have invested over £350,000 into producing a quality firewood for our customers. This investment includes the purchase of four biomass kiln driers, which run on a mix of waste wood and sawdust from our arboricultural and sawmilling operations. All timber used in the production of kiln-dried logs and firewood comes from site clearance, tree surgery and forestry works carried out by our sister company, LJN Tree Surgery.
This helps to keep our carbon footprint as low as possible whilst making the industry more sustainable. Please contact us to find out more about prices and deliveries.
We take our collection of freshly cut green wood from trees such as Oak, Ash, Birch, Beech, Cherry and Hornbeam, stacking them out in the open for around a year. Once the moisture content has dropped to around 30%, we cut the logs into 20cm or 33cm lengths to suit the needs of our customers and clients in Cranleigh, Dorking, Leatherhead, Guildford and the surrounding areas.
We then place these cut logs into our biomass kilns. These are large ovens which force moisture and water content out of the timber through constant airflow. Sophisticated monitoring sensors and a digital management system help us to achieve the desired levels of humidity and temperature control. With our own personnel using their know-how to operate the technology, an average load will dry out in just a couple of days.
This duration can vary depending on the type of wood because some require longer drying times than others. A series of smart systems enable water to escape, reducing overall moisture levels to below 20%. For premium grade kiln-dried logs, this is often less than 10%. LJN Firewood combines cutting-edge technology with experience to produce a quality, locally sourced log.
Whatever your wood burning needs, we supply the best in the business and deliver to the surrounding Cranleigh, Guildford, Dorking and Leatherhead areas, and to all locations across Surrey and West Sussex. A delivery charge may apply.
